If you think you can’t handle the task, you can rely on Bowling Green handyman services for help.

Prepare the Right Tools

Before you start, you have to prepare all the tools you need. The tools you will require will differ on the leak and what’s causing it. You might require rags, adjustable pliers, drain stopper, pipe wrench, crescent wrench, basin wrench, hex wrench, and flat head screwdriver.

Figure Out Where the Leak Comes From

After you prepare all the tools, you need to figure out where the faucet is leaking. You should search for the source of the water and where it is dripping from.

The issue is probably with the O-ring or seal if the leak is coming from the base. On the other hand, the problem is perhaps a damaged component within the faucet if the leak comes from the faucet itself.

Get Rid of the Faucet Handle

Before you do this, make sure you turn off your water supply. Once you’re done, get rid of the faucet handle. You can use a hex wrench to remove the handle and the metal cap.

If the leak is coming from the base of the faucet, you need to slide the spout off and replace the damaged O-ring.

If the spout of the faucet is leaking, disassemble all the internal components of the faucet. Make sure you take a photo so that you can remember how to reassemble them later.

Search for Damaged Components

After you disassemble the internal components of your faucet, it will be easy for you to spot the issue. Usually, damaged components are broken, warped, or rusted.

Replace the Damaged Component

After you know where the issue is, you need to replace the damaged component. However, it’s always a wise move to simply replace all the internal components of your faucet to ensure it will not leak again in the future.

If you don’t know what those parts are called, you can bring them to the hardware store.

Install the New Components

Once you have purchased all the replacement components, the next thing you need to do is to reassemble the faucet using the new parts.

Usually, the new components should come with directions for how to install them properly. Once you are done, open the faucet handle and turn your water supply back on gradually.

You need to wait for any air to bleed out of the lines before shutting down the handle of your faucet. After that, you’re good to go. Now you know how to fix a leaky faucet
